Heather Williams is an enrolled Puyallup Tribal member and a descendant of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Indiana University. After graduation, she worked for IU’s First Nations Educational and Cultural Center as Program Coordinator where she organized recurring educational series and mentored native students. During this time, she studied txʷəlšucid regularly and decided to move with her children back home in the Summer of 2019. She began work for her tribe at Grandview Early Learning Center teaching txʷəlšucid to preschoolers from Fall 2019 to Fall 2021. She earned her Level 1 Language Teaching Certification during this time and now works for the Language Program as an Instructor. While continuing to work toward her Level 2 Certification, she attempts to revitalize Language through personal language growth, speaking daily with her children, and teaching folks within her community. She enjoys sewing, weaving, and harvesting as well as working on her home.
