Amber Poitras Hayward is an enrolled member of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and a descendant of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe, who lives on the Puyallup Reservation with her family. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Native American Studies from the Evergreen State College. She has worked for her people at the Puyallup Tribe for over 20 years in the Historic Preservation Department under Tribal Historian & Elder, Judy Wright, and presently as the Program Director of the Language Program. Revitalizing her ancestral language in the Puyallup Tribal community, incorporating knowledge gained from her Elders, and learning through the eyes of her ancestors as the community reclaims their traditional ways has been the most rewarding work of her life.
